Tony Khan breaks silence on meeting with Shane McMahon at airport amid rumors of him joining AEW
Shane McMahon was recently seen having a meeting with AEW co-owner Tony Khan. He has been linked with WWE’s rival company for a while now. Amidst all the chaos, a meeting between them could suggest that The Prodigal Son is considering a move to the Jacksonville-based company. Khan recently commented on the meeting and potential working partnership with McMahon.
While speaking with Stugotz on The Dan Le Batard Show, Tony Khan revealed that he met Shane McMahon for the very first time. He also discussed how their picture might have possibly leaked. The AEW boss mentioned that someone on their phone accidentally walked into their meeting and took a picture.
Further discussing the meeting, Khan revealed it wasn’t very secretive and that he simply wanted to have a straightforward conversation. He mentioned that they had many mutual friends in Dallas who advised him to meet with Shane O’Mac. The 41-year-old official added that McMahon had a very respectable personality and was someone he enjoyed talking to.
I think somebody who works at the airport. We were just talking in the airport lounge, having a real nice chat as the photo evidenced, and somebody just walked in like they were on their phone, ‘Oops, sorry,’ and then walked away. I think that’s probably what it was.Tony Khan via The Dan Le Batard Show
It is no secret that Khan has long expressed his desire to bring Shane to the Jacksonville-based company. After their meeting, the WWE Universe speculated that he might end up in AEW, creating one of the most shocking moments in the wrestling world. In other big news for the company, Tony announced that the AEW All In PPV will be hosted in Texas in 2025.
Wrestling veteran Jim Cornette felt Tony Khan was scared to let The Young Bucks get to WWE
Wrestling veteran Jim Cornette spoke about the contract situation with The Young Bucks. Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson are the current AEW World Tag Team Champions. They signed a new contract with the Jacksonville-based company, which reportedly allows them to skip multiple dates.
While speaking on his podcast, The Experience, Cornette expressed that he felt the brothers had been handed everything. He also criticized their absence from recent shows, stating that an important figure in the company shouldn’t get days off. The 62-year-old veteran further added that Khan should’ve let them go to improve his ratings.
I think some people might think differently, but with these two who have everything handed to them, Tony Khan was scared they'd go to WWE. He should have let them because it would have removed a drag on his ratings and all those crummy TV segments.Jim Cornette on Tony Khan via The Experience podcast
Cornette further stated that The Young Bucks were exposed once they signed the new contract, calling them a couple of “cosplaying kids.” He also mentioned that their characters no longer felt genuine, and their matches were becoming repetitive. The Young Bucks last wrestled on the August 14 episode of AEW Dynamite, where they defended their tag titles against The Acclaimed.
