Career
After graduating, Donahue started his career at KYW radio and television as a production assistant. He also worked at WABJ radio in Michigan as a program director and did freelance journalism for CBS Evening News.
In Dayton, Ohio, he hosted the talk show “Conversation Piece,” and interviewed major figures, including John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, and Jerry Rubin.
In 1967, Donahue launched “The Phil Donahue Show,” which eventually entered nationwide syndication. The show moved from Dayton to Chicago in 1974 and then to New York City in 1985.
In addition to his talk show, Donahue co-hosted the “U.S.-Soviet Space Bridge” and later co-hosted “Posner/Donahue” with Vladimir Posner.
