JJ Yeley lashes out at hypocrite Denny Hamlin for running him over at Richmond

The lack of respect conversation has been heating the NASCAR garage for the last couple of weekends. Drivers and sports pundits have been going back and forth over whom to blame for the eruption of unwanted chaos at the track. Like in COTA, the Cup grid failed to end the discussions over the issue, and Denny Hamlin, who started the whole debate, intensified the fire.

On Lap 30 of the Richmond Cup race on Sunday, the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran intentionally spun No:15 Rick Ware Racing entry, JJ Yeley. He drove the car by F1 World champion Jenson Button at COTA last week. Button was critical of the aggressive racing that was on display at COTA.  Yeley, had one of the best cars of the day at Toyota Care 400, with a P37 finish credited to him.

After the race, Yeley was interviewed by Frontstretch, and he had a few words to share about the 23XI Racing co-owner. He pointed out that the move from Hamlin was hypocritical as he is the one who has been preaching respect in the garage for weeks. The No:15 driver claimed Hamlin knew there wouldn’t be any consequences and ran him for a caution.

“It’s pretty simple. I mean, he just ran me over and got me on the road; I’m assuming he wanted a caution. I mean, there was no sun in his eyes. I don’t know if there could have been anything you know from a guy who’s been preaching respect for the last couple of weeks. It seemed really silly on lap 32, knowing it would be a short runoff, so he had no worries or issues,” said JJ Yeley,

JJ Yeley was in the best car he had in 2023

Yeley had one of the best cars he could hope for from RWR at Richmond, and the poor end to the day did hurt him. He feels bad for himself and the sponsors who suffered due to Hamlin. He added there was no point in retaliating against Hamlin when asked why he didn’t do it. But he added that he would keep the incident in mind for future races.

“But you know, restart, we’re running too wide, you know, he just got around in a hurry and ran me over, so what much could I do?  You know I hate it from sponsors. My guys, this is one of the better cars we’ve had this year, they’ve been working hard on giving me a better product, and you know they did that part. So, we made some adjustments to make the car better and just had adversity,” Yeley said.

“I mean, you know what’s the point, right it’s…He’s damaged my car. I’m upset, you know. We’re not out there playing chicken and mouse for me…You know I doubt that he apologized. I doubt that he really even cares, uh you know, there’ll be a point where he may be in a different position, and then, obviously, he’s a race car driver, you never forget those things, so you just chalk that backup and go on,” Yeley added.
