Detective narrowly avoids serious injury after being hit by suspect's car
Kootenai County, ID — A Kootenai County Sheriff's Detective is recovering after being hit by a vehicle driven by a suspect.
The incident happened just before 1 p.m. Pacific Time when Detectives were trying to locate Emanuel Zavala who had multiple warrants for failing to register as a sex offender, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.
The Detectives attempted to stop Zavala in the parking lot of a gas station when one of the Detectives got out of his vehicle to contact Zavala.
Zavala then drove towards the Detective hitting him and his vehicle, the Detective lunged out of the way avoiding serious injury.
Zavala then fled to a nearby residence where he ran inside causing a standoff with law enforcement.
Zavala ultimately surrendered and was booked on several felony charges including aggravated battery on a peace officer, eluding causing injury, multiple warrants for sex offender registry violations, and multiple probation violations.
The Detective was examined and treated for minor injuries to his leg.
