A 23-year-old Caldwell man has been sentenced to 23 years in prison after being found guilty of two counts aggravated battery and the use of a deadly weapon.

Isaiah Magdaleno, a documented Norteno gang member, was arrested in December 2022, after Caldwell Police discovered he had attacked rival gang members in a convenience store parking lot with a knife.

Magdaleno attacked two men, one of whom is a juvenile, while they were sitting in a parked car at the convenience store. During the attack, the juvenile fled into the convenience store and was followed by Magdaleno who continued to attack him with a knife. Both victims suffered multiple stab wounds during the attack.

Judge Grove sentenced Magdaleno to 11 years fixed, 12 years indeterminate for each count, meaning he will serve at least 11 years before he is eligible for parole. Magdaleno has also been ordered to pay court costs and public defender reimbursement.

“This was a senseless act of gang violence at a busy convenience store, witnessed by innocent members of the public,” said Prosecutor Bryan Taylor. “The victims did nothing to provoke this and suffered significant injuries which could have resulted in their deaths. The sentence imposed by Judge Grove sends a clear message to the community that this type of gang violence will not be tolerated.”
