Anu Kapoor was born on 22 February, 1956 at his birthplace Itwara, Bhopal, Madya Pradesh.

Personal life

His Father Madanlal Kapoor was a Punjabi and his mother Kamal Shabnam Kapoor was a Bengali. She was a singer and a poet by profession. He has a sister Seema Kapoor was married to actor Om Puri . She was a film actress and producer by profession. Also, he has two brothers named Ranjit Kapoor and Nikhil Kapoor. Ranjit was a film director and Nikhil was a screenwriter by profession. Annu Kapoor got married to an American girl, Anupama in 1992. The couple has three sons. The couple got divorced after a few years of their marriage. He then married to Arunita Mukherjee from which they have one daughter but despite marrying Kapoor was constantly in touch with his first wife which led to a divorce between Annu and Arunita. In 2008, Annu remarried his first wife, Anupama.

Anu Kapoor has done his graduation in acting from National School of Drama, New Delhi. His hobbies include travelling, Listening Music and Singing. He wanted to become a surgeon or an IAS officer but his family couldn’t afford to send him to a medical college. Also, he has changed his name to avoid confusion with the other actor Anil Kapoor, otherwise his actual name is Anil Kapoor. He had done some odd jobs such as selling tea at tea stall, selling lottery tickets, running a small fire-cracker shop before the joining of the theatre company.

Career

In 1981, Kapoor played the role of a 70-year old man in the stage play “Ek Ruka Hua Faisla”. The film director Shyam Benegal noticed his performance in the play and offered him to play a role in his film “Mandi”(1983). His debut involves such as in Bollywood film-Mandi(1983), in Malayalam Film-Kala Pani(1996), in Television- Khari Khari and in Theatre in Laila Majnu.

In addition to actor, he is also a director. So, basically he is a Actor, film director, theatre actor, television presenter, producer, comedian and a radio host by his profession. He was superbly famous for a music reality show on Zee TV show Antakshari as a host from the period of 1993-2006.
